Summer 2001: Animated Doodles

As a lifelong "doodler", I began to think of how it would be possible to do doodle in a time-based and digital way. Would it be possible to make stream-of-conscious non-precious animations that maintain the immediacy of a hand-drawn doodle? And so, armed with a sketchpad and a three-hour time limit per animation, The Animated Doodle series was born.

Woman Sweeping Portrait The Break
May 2001. The drawings were made in the hotel at Wildwood while watching one of those investigative crime shows.
Little Girl Portrait Entertaining at Home
May 2001. The drawings were made sitting on the Wildwood beach. Schlomo kept burying Jeremy while he tried to sleep.

Cat and Cello Portrait The Dream
May 2001. The drawings were made while watching the Simpsons series finale.
Girl in Brace Portrait Brace Yourself
May 2001. I don't know. The topic of orthopedic appliances was coming up a lot in conversation.

Man and Birds Portrait Rest Stop
June 2001. The drawings were made while sitting at a rest stop on the Massachusets Parkway.
solitaire 2 Solitaire part 2
May 2001. This is the one that started the whole thing. I found the original drawings I did for "Solitaire". I liked the images and thought it would be fun to set them to music (Eric Satie's Gnossienne No. 2) and animate them.
